HP has launched its next-generation Spectre x360 13 convertible notebook in India. Introduced globally in late-September, the new HP Spectre x360 13 is specifically designed for modern consumers with a premium design and top-notch hardware that includes the 10th generation Intel Core processors along with Iris Plus graphics. The new convertible is also touted to be 13 percent smaller than its predecessor but with a whopping 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. HP has provided up to 4K OLED display that is capable of producing 400 nits of brightness. The HP Spectre x360 13 is also made of a sleek metallic build that flaunts gem-cut and dual chamfer angular edges.

The notebook will go on sale through across 150 HP World Stores in over 50 cities, HP Online Store, and e-commerce portals such as Amazon and Flipkart. HP Spectre x360 specifications, features The new HP Spectre x360 13 is claimed to come with a 13 percent smaller size over last year’s convertible — with the top border reduced by 12mm and the bottom border reduced by 15mm. Despite the smaller appearance, the new notebook has retained the 13.3-inch display size that was available on the previous Spectre x360 13. The display is backed by the 4K OLED or full-HD panel that supports HP’s True Black HDR technology for a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. There is also a factory colour calibration with Delta E <2 for 30 percent wider colour range over the prior generation.
Under the hood, the HP Spectre x360 13 refresh model comes with a quad-core 10th generation Intel Core processor that is claimed to deliver two times the performance of the previous generation. The convertible also comes with the latest range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and 4×4 Gigabit LTE for 122 percent faster speeds over Cat9 2×2 configuration. Similarly, HP says that there is an integrated functionality with USB Type-C port placement angled in the right corner to provide an improved cord management.
The Spectre x360 13 also has ThunderBolt 3 support as well as one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, one headphone/ microphone combo, one HDMI 2.0 port, and microSD card slot.
There are preloaded features such as HP Command Center and HP Network booster to optimise system performance. The Spectre x360 13 also has the HP Webcam Kill Switch that lets users safely switch the webcam on or off with a press of a button. AMD announced the impending launch of a Radeon RX 5500 GPU series in early October, and now the Radeon RX 5500 XT has now been launched. With this new GPU, AMD is targeting gamers who want high performance at 1920×1080 without spending too much. According to AMD, gamers who play at 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 represent over 90 percent of the market, and the company is targeting these two groups with the new Radeon RX 5500 and the previously launched Radeon RX 5700 series respectively. There has not been any mention of other GPU models within the Radeon RX 5500 family, at least not yet, although the Radeon RX 5500 XT will be available in versions with either 4GB or 8GB of VRAM.
In India, AMD has announced indicative starting prices of Rs. 12,990 and Rs. 14,990 (both excluding taxes) for the 4GB and 8GB versions of the Radeon RX 5500 XT. Graphics cards in both configurations should be available from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock, Sapphire, XFX, and PowerColor in various parts of the world starting today. Asus has announced that its customised Asus Dual Evo 5500 XT (8GB) model will be available priced starting at Rs. 17,500 in India, while a Strix series model (also 8GB) will cost Rs. 19,500 and go on sale a week from today.
AMD will not be creating a reference cooler, and so all graphics cards will be custom-designed versions. The company has shown off images of cards from all its AIB partners, and they appear to vary in size, but all feature either two or three fans. Partners will be free to modify clock speeds and power characteristics.
The Radeon RX 5500 XT GPU is built around the same RDNA architecture, 7nm manufacturing process, and PCIe 4.0 infrastructure as the higher-end Radeon RX 5700 series. The GPU features 1,408 stream processors clustered into 22 compute units. The reference boost clock is 1845MHz, while AMD’s “game clock”, or the speed that gamers should expect to see consistently, is 1717MHz. AMD has used 14GBps GDDR6 memory on a 128-but bus. The reference total board power requirement is 130W.
Compared to the three-year-old year old Radeon RX 480, AMD is promising 1.6X performance per Watt, that too from a much smaller physical GPU die. The company is looking to target those who are upgrading from a GPU of that age, especially esports gamers.
AMD is pitching this GPU against the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Super, and promises up to 30 percent better performance in games across a variety of APIs, using Medium to High settings. The hardware also benefits from the recently announced Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition drivers and utilities.
Interestingly, AMD says that 4GB is still the ideal amount of VRAM for playing games at 1920×1080, but there are specific framebuffer-heavy titles, such as Borderlands 3, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and CoD: Modern Warfare which will benefit significantly by having 8GB of RAM. The company suggests that gamers who aren’t going to upgrade after 2-3 years choose the version with more RAM just to be future-ready.
AMD has also refreshed its Raise the Game bundle, and so every buyer of a Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card will receive Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, as well as a three-month subscription to the Xbox Game Pass service. It is not yet known whether the latter will be applicable to buyers in India.

Microsoft has introduced calling support in the Your Phone app. The feature was tested for a few months by Windows Insider members, and it has now rolled out to the general public. This feature will allow users to make and receive calls on their PCs using the Your Phone app. Compatible users should be able to dial a number to make a call, check call history, and seamlessly transfer calls between the PC and phone. Essentially, this feature will allow users to avoid picking up their phones while working on the PC.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of the Your Phone app calling feature via the Windows Insider Twitter handle. The feature was in testing for a while, and now it has rolled out for all compatible Windows 10 users. As mentioned, this feature first arrived with Windows 10 preview build 18999 for Insiders (20H1) sometime in October, and was tested for a few months before being rolled out to the public.
Users can now use the Your Phone app on the PC to answer incoming calls on your phone, via your PC. You can even make calls using the in-app dialler and accessing the contact list. If you do not wish to answer the call, you can decline these phone calls via the PC and even send a custom text when you decline. The phone call history will also be accessible via the PC, and just like the phone, clicking on a recent call will auto populate the number within the dialer screen. Users can even transfer your calls between PC to phone seamlessly, in case you wish to stand up from your seat to move around.
The technical requirements to use the calling feature are – Android 7 Nougat on the phone with the Your Phone app installed from Google Play. The Windows 10 PC needs to have Bluetooth support as well.

When Intel became the first major company to release its government data detailing employee pay information, the company’s chief diversity and inclusion officer said in a statement that she hoped its move “will encourage others in the industry to do the same.” The data revealed that 41 of 52 top executives making more than $208,000 (roughly Rs. 1.5 crores) a year were men and 37 were white. An analysis by Bloomberg, which first reported the data, showed that 1 in 4 white men at Intel are in the top salary band, while less than 10 percent of black employees are top earners.
But so far, none of the other big tech companies have committed to matching the chipmaker’s transparency about employee pay data.
Microsoft said in an emailed statement that it “does not have anything more to share at this time” while noting that its median employee makes about $172,000 (roughly Rs. 1.2 crores) and that it is committed to equal pay. Google said it “had nothing more to share specifically” on the government data “at the moment” but highlighted other diversity statistics. Facebook also said that while it will continue to publish government data about its workforce demographics, it did not plan to release the pay data.
Apple, Amazon, Adobe, Dell, HP, and IBM offered no immediate response on releasing their data.
Several experts said that the chipmaker’s voluntary release of the confidential data is unlikely to produce a groundswell of followers.
“It’s unlikely to be widespread unless there’s some kind of external pressure for it,” said Donald Tomaskovic-Devey, a professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst who studies employment data. Not only might employers be concerned that the data will be misunderstood or paint them in a poor light but the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said it plans to shelve the rule requiring the pay data collection.
Under an Obama-era rule, the EEOC asked all employers with 100 or more employees to supply data about the number of US workers by race and gender across 10 broad job categories – the EEO-1 form that has been required for decades – as well as provide additional data breaking down those categories by pay band.
Pay advocates said collecting the data was intended to help reveal potential pay disparities. But some business leaders said the data did not reflect actual employee positions and was burdensome and costly to collect. In September, the EEOC said it planned to shelve the program, citing costs to employers and its “unproven utility.” (Facebook cited this decision in its statement, noting that it is “keeping abreast of the department’s recommendations for further reporting should that materialise.”)
James Paretti – an attorney with Littler Mendelson who was a former chief of staff for EEOC Commissioner Victoria Lipnic, who voted against the rule – said he has not been having conversations with clients about releasing the data. “I doubt this will be indicative of a strong trend,” he said, noting that “the conversations I’ve had most with my clients are about what an incredible amount of time, money and energy is going into [this].”
Companies may also choose not to release the data knowing that the EEOC is planning to drop the rule. “I think when you tell employers you’re not going to do it anymore, it discourages them not only from reporting it but doing so publicly,” said Jocelyn Frye, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, who worked on former first lady Michelle Obama’s staff.
Intel chief diversity officer Barbara Whye said in a statement that the company released the data because “transparency and open sharing of our data enable us to both celebrate our progress and confront our setbacks.” She said the company wants to “lead the industry in this space by raising the transparency bar for ourselves and, as a result, raising it for others.”
She also said the company knows it “needs better female and underrepresented male representation in leadership positions in the US and worldwide. There is a gap in progression for women and underrepresented populations from senior management into our director and executive level ranks. These drops are preventable, and we are doubling down on our inclusion efforts, including a re-evaluation of leadership progression to make sure women and underrepresented groups are advancing within the company.”
Many employers are hesitant to release their traditional EEO-1 form, which only collects US demographic data, not pay. When The Washington Post asked the 15 largest US banks to share that form, only two produced the form in its entirety for all three years requested.
Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting asked 211 of the largest technology companies for the original forms; it said in 2018 that only 30 had made them public for any year.
